Chhattisgarh: An encounter between security personnel and Naxalites is currently taking place in the Pujari Kanker forest of Bijapur district, Chhattisgarh, on Thursday. Reports indicate that 10 to 12 Naxalites have been killed during the encounter. Intermittent firing from both sides is going on.
Bastar IG Sundarraj P. has confirmed the ongoing encounter. About 1,200 to 1,500 security personnel from Bijapur, DRG Sukma, DRG Dantewada, various Cobra battalions, and the CRPF have been deployed. Jawans have surrounded the Naxalites. The area is known to harbor a large number of Naxalites, including some prominent leaders.
2 jawans injured in IED blast
In a related incident, two security personnel were injured due to an IED blast in Bijapur. They have been admitted to the district hospital in critical condition after conducting a search operation from the Putkel camp. It has been reported that Naxalites had previously planted IEDs in the area, leading to the explosion.
Earlier, on January 12, forces had successfully killed five Naxalites, including two female members, in the Maddeed area of Bijapur. \SLRs and rifles were recovered along with the bodies of the slain Maoists.
Bijapur SP Jitendra Yadav confirmed this operation, while IG Sundarraj P noted that Maoists from the National Park Area Committee have been surrounded by security forces since Sunday morning, with intermittent firing continuing throughout the day in the Bandepara-Koranjed forest.
