18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention: PM Modi will flag off Pravasi Bharatiya Express, inaugurate four exhibitions


The Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) Convention serves as the flagship event of the Government of India, offering a vital platform for connecting and engaging with the Indian diaspora, fostering interaction among its members.


Scheduled for January 8-10, 2025, the 18th PBD Convention will take place in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, in collaboration with the State Government of Odisha. The theme for this year's event is “Diaspora’s Contribution to a Viksit Bharat.”


A historic milestone


This convention marks a historic milestone as it is the first time it is being held in Odisha, a state rich in historical, cultural, and spiritual heritage. The previous 17th PBD Convention was conducted in 2023 in Indore, Madhya Pradesh.


A diverse group of Indian diaspora members from over 50 countries has already registered to attend the PBD Convention.


Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the event on January 9, 2025, and will also deliver a virtual address. Christine Carla Kangaloo, the President of the Republic of Trinidad & Tobago, will be the Chief Guest.


Pravasi Bharatiya Express


PM Modi will remotely launch the inaugural journey of the Pravasi Bharatiya Express, a special tourist train designed for the Indian diaspora. This train will start from Nizamuddin Railway Station in Delhi and travel to various important tourist and religious destinations across India for three weeks. The initiative is part of the Pravasi Teertha Darshan Yojana of the Ministry of External Affairs.


PM will inaugurate four exhibitions


During the convention, PM Modi will inaugurate four exhibitions:


Vishwaroop Ram – The Universal Legacy of Ramayana: Showcasing the timeless epic of Ramayana through a blend of traditional and contemporary art forms.


Diaspora’s Contribution to Technology and Viksit Bharat: Highlighting the Indian diaspora's role in technological advancements worldwide.


Spread and Evolution of Indian Diaspora: Focusing on the migration from Mandvi, Gujarat to Muscat, Oman, featuring rare documents.


Heritage and Culture of Odisha: Celebrating Odisha's rich heritage through various art and craft forms, emphasizing its illustrious legacy.


Murmu will present Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Awards


The Valedictory Session on January 10, 2025, will be presided over by President Droupadi Murmu, who will present the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Awards 2025 to select members of the Indian diaspora, recognizing their achievements and contributions in various fields both in India and abroad.


Additionally, the Youth Pravasi Bharatiya Divas will take place on January 8, 2025, in partnership with various stakeholders.

 

PBD Convention will have five thematic plenary sessions


The PBD Convention will have five thematic plenary sessions as follows:


“Beyond Borders: Diaspora Youth Leadership in a Globalized World”;


“Building Bridges, Breaking Barriers: Stories of Migrant Skills”;


“Green Connections: Diaspora’s Contributions to Sustainable Development”;


“Diaspora Divas: Celebrating Women’s Leadership and Influence – Nari Shakti”; and


“Diaspora Dialogues: Stories of Culture, Connection and Belongingness”.


All the Plenary Sessions will feature panel discussions involving eminent diaspora experts.
