There was a stampede in the famous Tirupati temple located in Andhra Pradesh late in the evening. Six devotees died in this accident, while about many more were injured. However, the police have confirmed the death of four devotees.
According to the information, a stampede occurred near the Darshan ticket centers at the Vaikunth gate of Tirupati temple. Thousands of devotees were queuing up for tickets in the temple since morning. Apart from women, elderly people were also in the queue.
The incident happened when devotees were allowed to queue up at Bairagi Pattida Park. Vaikunth Dwar Darshan has been opened for ten days, due to which thousands of people had gathered at the tokens. There was chaos due to the stampede, in which 6 devotees were killed.
A woman named Mallika is also among the dead. It is being told that about 4 thousand devotees were queuing up for tokens. It was difficult to handle such a large crowd. However, somehow the police took charge and controlled the crowd.
The gate where the accident happened was to be opened on January 10. A day earlier on Tuesday, Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) Executive Officer J Shyamala Rao had said that Vaikuntha Ekadashi and Vaikuntha gate will be opened for darshan from January 10 to 19. For this, people were standing in line to get tokens.
Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu expressed his deep shock over the death of devotees in the stampede that took place near Vishnu Niwasam in Tirupati for darshan tokens at Tirumala Srivari Vaikuntha Dwara.
Chandrababu Naidu has also inquired about the situation from the officials over the phone. However, a large number of police and ambulances have reached the spot.
