Indore has achieved another milestone by being designated as a prestigious Wetland City by the Ramsar Convention. Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav hailed this recognition as a proud achievement for both the state and the country.
He emphasized that this accolade marks a significant moment of pride for Madhya Pradesh. Ramsar, an international organization dedicated to environmental conservation, announced a list of 31 Wetland Cities on Saturday, recognizing urban centers that excel in preserving wetlands while advancing urban development. For the first time, two Indian cities, Indore and Udaipur, have earned a place on this esteemed list.
Country's first wetland city Indore
The Ramsar Convention on Saturday recognised 31 cities of the world as wetland cities and made the announcement. For the first time in the country, two cities have been recognised as wetland cities by Ramsar. Indore and Udaipur have been included as the first two cities of the country.
It is noteworthy that recently Indore was nominated by the Central Government for recognition as a wetland city by the Ramsar Convention. Union Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Bhupendra Yadav said that this will give Indore and Udaipur recognition with positive branding at the international level.
Indore becomes the leader in environment
Indore, developed as an industrial area, is also maintaining balance in the field of environment. Sirpur and Yashwant Sagar in Indore have already been declared Ramsar sites. Along with the conservation of lakes, environmental enhancement and development of ideal habitat for birds, Sirpur is being developed as a bird sanctuary.
PM Modi greets
