Border-Gavaskar Test series: Former cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu has reacted sharply to the absence of captain Rohit Sharma in the Team India for the final match of the Border-Gavaskar Test series being played against Australia in Sydney.
Sidhu, while talking to reporters in Wayanad, said, "My opinion on the issue of Rohit Sharma is very simple. Such decisions should be taken before or after the series. You cannot change horses in the middle of the race and here it is about the captain."
"People's opinions can be different. In India, ten people have twenty opinions and now we have become accustomed to ridiculing our heroes. Six months ago, this same person won the World Cup for you and he was scoring runs continuously."
According to Sidhu, "Rohit Sharma represents 150 crore Indians. By removing him during the series, you are giving a wrong psychological message. Any decision taken cannot be reversed, but when the king is down, the game is over."
India is trailing 1-2 in the five-match Test series against Australia. Rohit Sharma was ruled out of the final match in Sydney and was replaced by Jasprit Bumrah as captain.
Update on Bumrah's health
Meanwhile, fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah had to leave the stadium in the middle of the fifth Test match being played between Australia and India in Sydney.
Fast bowler Prasidh Krishna has given information about Bumrah's health. He said, "He was feeling back pain and went for scanning for the same. A team of doctors is constantly monitoring him. So now the medical team will give us further information about his health."
Before today's game ended, Bumrah remained out of the field for more than three hours and during this time Virat Kohli led the team.
In the second session after lunch, Bumrah bowled only one over and after that he had to leave the field. Bumrah has taken 32 wickets so far in the current series against Australia.
