A powerful explosion occurred at the army's ordanace factory in Bhandara district, Maharashtra, on Friday morning, resulting in fears that five people may have lost their lives. The cause of the explosion is currently unknown, but the blast was so powerful that it was heard from a distance of up to five kilometers. Smoke was visible from several kilometers away.
Bhandara Collector Sanjay Kolte said that the explosion took place around 10:30 am, leading to a roof collapse at the facility. Efforts to clear the debris are underway with the help of JCB machinery. It is feared that 12 people may be trapped beneath the rubble, while two people have already been evacuated. Rescue operations are ongoing.
According to official sources, the explosion took place in the Long Term Planning (LTP) section of the factory located in the Jawahar Nagar area. At the time of the incident, 14 employees were present in that section; three have been rescued, and one has been confirmed deceased.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that reports indicate 13 to 14 people may be trapped under the collapsed roof. While one fatality has been confirmed, five people have been rescued. The police have also reported that one person has died, and efforts to locate ten missing individuals are continuing.
Both the District Collector and the Superintendent of Police are present at the site, providing all necessary assistance. Teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and Nagpur Municipal Corporation have been called in to aid the rescue efforts. The district administration is coordinating with defense forces for the operation, and medical assistance teams are on standby.
