Parliament's Budget Session Begins January 31: Nirmala Sitharaman to Present Budget for Eighth Consecutive Time on This Date

The budget session of Parliament is set to commence on January 31, with President Droupadi Murmu addressing a joint session of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha prior to the session's start.

The session will conclude on April 4, during which Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is expected to present the general budget, likely on February 1. This will mark her eighth consecutive budget presentation, following the economic survey.

The second phase of the budget session will take place from March 10 to April 4. Notably, Parliament proceedings will be suspended on the day of the Delhi elections. Following February 3, a debate on the motion of thanks for the President's address will occur, culminating in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's response in both houses.

During this budget session, there is potential for the government to abolish the old tax regime. The new tax regime, which became effective on April 1, 2020, was designated as the default tax system starting April 1, 2023.

This will be the fourth session of the 18th Lok Sabha and the first budget session of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's third term. Following the Lok Sabha elections, the Modi government will present its comprehensive budget.

The previous winter session, held from November 25 to December 21, 2024, faced lot of disruptions, leading to the adjournment of House proceedings for the first four days. During that session, a total of 20 Lok Sabha meetings and 19 Rajya Sabha meetings were conducted.
