Prayagraj Mahakumbh 2025 Stampede: A stampede occurred during the Mahakumbh 2025 in Prayagraj on the night of January 28-29. This tragic event resulted in the deaths of more than 30 people and left over 60 devotees injured. In response, the Uttar Pradesh government has implemented measures, including the deployment of experienced officers to oversee the Mahakumbh.
At present, all VIP passes have been canceled. Apart from this, the entire fair area has been declared a no-vehicle zone. Five major changes have been made regarding security. After 30 deaths, the government has swung into action.
VIP passes cancelled
After the stampede incident, the government has issued instructions to cancel all VIP passes. Now no officer or VIP's vehicle will be able to get entry into the fair area.
Along with this, the entire Maha Kumbh area has been declared a no-vehicle zone. This will facilitate the devotees to come and go on foot. Incidents like stampede can be avoided.
Experienced officers to monitor Mela
After the stampede, the state government sent a team of experienced officers to Prayagraj. IAS Ashish Goyal and Bhanu Goswami have been called to monitor the Kumbh Mela. Both these officers have also played an important role in the 2019 Ardh Kumbh.
Apart from them, five more senior officers have been put on duty in Prayagraj. The administration has said that crowd management and security will be further boosed in the Maha Kumbh by taking advantage of the experience of these officers.
No-vehicle zone
The entire fair area has been declared a no-vehicle zone. There is a complete ban on giving entry to any vehicle in the fair.
One-way traffic has been implemented. The entry and exit routes for the devotees have now been separated.
Additional security barricading has been done. Security barricading has already been strengthened at Sangam Nose.
Arrangements have been made for Mela special trains. Railways have made special arrangements to provide smooth travel to the devotees.
Surveillance has increased with CCTV cameras and drones. The entire Mela area is being closely monitored with cameras and drones.
