The Uttar Pradesh Congress has targeted the state's BJP government for the 'half-hearted preparations' of the Prayagraj Mahakumbh-2025. The Congress has accused the government of neglecting the facilities for pilgrims and saints.
Talking to reporters, Congress state president Ajay Rai and party MP from Prayagraj, Ujjwal Raman Singh, slammed the BJP government for its lack of attention to the needs of devotees and saints during the Mahakumbh. They expressed concerns about what they described as 'half-hearted preparations' for the event.
The Congress MP accused the government and officials of ignoring the saints and devotees and said that the government and the entire administrative system are only engaged in hospitality and photo-ops of VIPs, due to which the common devotees are facing huge inconvenience.
'Corruption will be exposed with facts and figures '
State Congress President Ajay Rai accused the government of corruption in the budget allocated in the name of Mahakumbh and said that it will be exposed with facts and figures after the event. He said that the government is trying to mislead everyone by claiming large-scale preparations in the name of Mahakumbh.
Raising questions on the meeting of the state cabinet held on Wednesday in the Mahakumbh premises, Rai said, "By holding a cabinet drama at the holy Mahasangam place of faith and spirituality, the state government has made Mahakumbh an 'event'.
The government has changed the traditions of Mahakumbh. In the name of arrangements in Mahakumbh, only corruption is taking place by giving contracts to Gujarati companies.
'Wood planks for Pipa Bridge sourced from pvt companies'
MP Ujjwal Raman Singh said that thick wood planks valued at Rs 200 crore for the construction of the Pipa Bridge were sourced from private companies. He said that in previous instances, the wood for the Pipa Bridge was typically provided by the forest departments of various state governments. However, this time, the supply was reportedly sourced illegally from multiple private companies. As a result, the wooden planks were not delivered on time, and those that were supplied were of substandard quality.
Raising questions on the preparations for the Maha Kumbh, the MP said, "Road construction in the Mahakumbh has also fallen prey to corruption. In every Kumbh, even the streets and drains of the localities were built. But this time even the main road and the intersection were not touched."
