In Uttar Pradesh, the cold has turned deadly, claiming 29 lives in the last 72 hours, with four deaths reported in the past 24 hours. A cold day alert has been issued in 16 districts of the state. The weather department predicts rain and hailstorms in several districts after two days, potentially worsening the cold.
Temps below 10 degress in MP, Rajasthan cities
The cold wave has pushed temperatures below 10°C in 35 cities across Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. Nagaur in Rajasthan recorded a biting 2.5°C, one of the lowest temperatures in the region.
Avalanche in Ooty
In a surprising turn, an avalanche occurred in Udhagamandalam (Ooty), Tamil Nadu. The temperature in the hill station has plummeted to 0°C, leading to frost in areas such as Kanthal and Thalaikuntha.
Dense Fog Across 17 States
Dense fog has enveloped 17 states, disrupting visibility and transportation. In Delhi, zero visibility was recorded on Wednesday morning, causing significant delays to flights and trains.
Heavy Snowfall in J&K
The snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir has led to the accumulation of several feet of snow, disrupting normal life. Major roads, including the Srinagar-Leh Road, Mughal Road, and Semthan-Kishtwar Road, remain closed due to heavy snow.
The combination of snow, fog, and frigid temperatures continues to pose challenges across India, with relief not expected in the immediate future. Residents are advised to take precautions and stay updated with weather alerts.
