The thrilling actioner - based on the Indo-Pakistani air war of 1965, is a must-watch this Republic weekend with friends and family in theatres. The film tells the entwined stories of Wing Commander K.O. Ahuja (Kumar) and T.K. Vijaya (Pahariya) and the selfless sacrifices the armed forces make for their country in the name of duty.
The 2-hour-long film talks about Wing Commander Ahuja fighting for justice and Vijaya - a fearless rebel Air Force officer who risked everything to protect his nation. For those who don't know, Vijaya went missing during the 1965 India-Pakistan War and was posthumously awarded the Maha Vir Chakra in 1988, 23 years after his demise.
Directors Sandeep Kewlani and Abhishek Kapur deserve a round of applause for bringing this film to life. The duo have managed to tell the heart-touching story by making sure the audience cares about every fight and feels everything the characters experience. The pacing is consistent with no unnecessary scenes that would make the actioner feel like a drag. The well-written film is beautifully edited by A. Sreekar Prasad who manages to show us every important aspect of the narrative in just 125 minutes.
The background score by Justin Varghese is sure to make you feel every emotion the characters feel. Aside from the BGM, the film comprises dialogues that are sure to evoke feelings of love and patriotism. The film's VFX will wow you as the team behind them showcases them with intensity and authenticity.
Veer's layered performance as Vijaya - right from showing him as an overconfident rebel to a soldier willing to lay down his life to keep others safe, is spot-on. Mr Pahariya has delivered an impeccable performance and is a star to look out for. Akshay Kumar's nuanced portrayal of Wing Commander K.O. Ahuja is one of his best acts in recent times. He shines in every second he has.
Sara Ali Khan as Vijaya's wife will make you feel her heartache as she fears the unknown. Nimrat Kaur's subtle yet powerful performance as Ahuja's wife adds an extra layer of emotional complexity to the narrative. The other supporting cast also do justice to the characters they play.
We give Sky Force 4 stars.
