What S Jaishankar said on Indian citizens living 'illegally' abroad

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has said that India is ready to facilitate the return of Indian nationals residing "illegally" abroad, including the United States.

He said this while addressing a press conference in Washington DC on Wednesday. During this, he clarified India's stand on Indian citizens living 'illegally' abroad.

Jaishankar said, "India's stand on this matter is 'firm' and 'principled' and I have clearly told this to Marco Rubio (US Secretary of State)."

Jaishankar said, "We have consistently maintained the position that if any person living abroad illegally is confirmed to be an Indian national, we are always prepared to facilitate their return to India. This principle applies universally, including in the case of the United States."

Donald Trump has from time to time expressed strong views against immigrants coming illegally to America.
