Mahashivratri 2025: The great festival of Mahashivratri is being celebrated across the country on 26 February. The festival holds special significance in Sanatan Dharma. On this auspicious day, devotees worship Lord Shiva and often observe a fast. A popular dish during such fasting periods is Sabudana Kheer, known for its delicious taste and nutritional benefits. Here's an easy recipe to prepare this delightful treat.
Ingredients for Making Sabudana Kheer
Sabudana (sago) – 1 cup
Milk – 4 cups
Sugar – ½ cup (adjust to taste)
Cardamom powder – ½ teaspoon
Ghee – 1 teaspoon
Chopped dry fruits (cashews, almonds, pistachios) – 2-3 tablespoons
Raisins – 1 tablespoon (optional)
Method of Making Sabudana Kheer:
Begin by washing the sabudana thoroughly and soaking it in water for 1-2 hours until it swells completely.
In a pan, bring 4 cups of milk to a boil over medium flame.
Once the milk starts boiling, add the soaked sabudana and mix well. Stir continuously to prevent it from sticking to the pan.
Cook until the sabudana is well-cooked and the kheer thickens.
Add sugar and ghee, mixing until the sugar dissolves completely.
Finally, stir in the cardamom powder. Garnish with chopped cashews, almonds, and raisins before serving. Sabudana kheer can be enjoyed hot or cold.
Sago is not only delicious but also packed with nutrients, including fiber, iron, potassium, calcium, and antioxidants, making it a beneficial choice for health-conscious individuals. Enjoy this festive season with a delightful and nutritious dish!
