Political Tensions Rise in Maharashtra as Sharad Pawar Honors Eknath Shinde with Rashtra Gaurav Award, What Sanjay Raut & BJP said?

Sharad Pawar, president of the NCP (Sharad faction), presented the 'Mahadji Shinde Rashtra Gaurav Award' to Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde in Delhi on February 11, sparking controversy in Maharashtra's political circle. The Shiv Sena (UBT), part of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) coalition, voiced strong objections the following day.

Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut slammed the award. He said that Shinde's actions, supported by Amit Shah, led to the fracturing of the Shiv Sena. Giving such honor to someone whom we consider an enemy of Maharashtra is a blow to the pride of Maharashtra. Raut said that Sharad Pawar should not have attended this program, because Shinde had toppled the Uddhav Thackeray-led MVA government.

Raut questioned the legitimacy of awards given to political figures. He asked - Do you know who gave this award? Such awards given to political leaders are either bought or sold.

This was not a political but a literary event: NCP (Pawar)

NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) reacted and said that this was not a political but a literary programme. NCP said that the event was a literary gathering, not a political one.  NCP (SP) MP Amol Kolhe said that Raut can express his personal opinion. This was a program of the All India Marathi Sahitya Sammelan. Politics should not be brought into everything. I don't think there is anything wrong in this, Kolhe said.

Pawar has accepted that Shinde was a good CM: BJP

On the other hand  Maharashtra BJP chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule said on Raut's statement that the NCP (Sharad faction) president was in a way expressing that Eknath Shinde has done a good job as CM compared to Uddhav Thackeray. Pawar has accepted that Shinde was a good CM.

The BJP leader also claimed that Pawar has written in his biography that Uddhav Thackeray visited the ministry only twice between 2019 and 2022 while Shinde used to work 22 hours a day. Bawankule said that Sharad Pawar felt that Uddhav had harmed the state.

What Shinde said?

At the felicitation ceremony, Eknath Shinde had said - Many people do not understand Sharad Pawar's political googly. Sometimes even people sitting on the sidelines or on the seats do not understand his googly. Shinde said that Sharad Pawar knows how to maintain good relations beyond the political field.

He said - Pawar also throws googly balls, which are difficult to understand. I have a good relationship with Sharad Pawar, but he has never thrown a googly at me. I am confident that he will not throw a googly at me in the future too.
