Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar on Thursday told the Rajya Sabha that the return of Indian citizens living illegally in the US is as per the prescribed provisions and said that the government will take strict action against the agents who send citizens abroad illegally.
Jaishankar was clarifying the questions of the opposition parties after giving a statement in the House on the issue of Indian citizens being deported from America to India. He said in the statement that the government is only in favor of legal movement and tries to stop illegal activities.
All the deportations that are happening from America have been investigated and will continue in future as well. He said that compliance of international rules will be ensured in the process of return from America.
Rules and procedures established at the international level are adopted
Citing the figures of the return of unauthorized citizens from the year 2009 to 2024, the Foreign Minister said that this is not a new issue and for this, rules and procedures established at the international level are adopted.
He said that the process of return from foreign countries and America has been continuous and happens every year. Everyone's return is done through the prescribed standard procedure. Civil and military aircraft are used for this. The government has ensured that the dignity of every person will be taken care of and the legal process will be followed.
S Jaishankar said that the government was aware of the return of 104 people from America. All the people are provided help from the embassy and investigation is done and their Indian citizenship is certified. The government adopts a sympathetic attitude in all cases and moves forward.

He said that the government was informed in this regard and everyone was provided help from the embassy. He said that the government does not have any information regarding the property of the people being returned to the country.
The Foreign Minister said that information about the citizens returning to the country going abroad is being sought in which the name of the agent is also being asked so that illegal migration can be stopped.
Earlier, the proceedings of the House were adjourned till 12 o'clock due to the uproar of the opposition during the Zero Hour on this issue and in a meeting with the opposition in the Speaker's chamber, it was agreed that the Foreign Minister will give a statement at 2 o'clock and clarification can be sought.
Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar described the statement and clarification of the Foreign Minister as detailed and sufficient.
