On Thursday, members of opposition parties led by Congress walked out of the Rajya Sabha over the report of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) related to the Waqf Amendment Bill, which the leader of the House Jagat Prakash Nadda described as supporting traitors.
On Thursday, February 13, the last day of the first half of the current budget session of Parliament, the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) led by BJP MP Jagdambika Pal has presented its report in the Lok Sabha. BJP MP Medha Vishram Kulkarni has presented the JPC report on Waqf in the Rajya Sabha. The Upper House has also accepted this report of the JPC. But the opposition members did not accept it and created a ruckus demanding the withdrawal of the entire Waqf Bill. This bill has been described as an attack on the rights of minorities.
When Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar started the Question Hour in the morning, members of Congress, Aam Aadmi Party and other opposition parties started making noise and walked out of the House. There was uproar on this issue during Zero Hour as well and the opposition walked out of the House.
Shri Nadda said that the Chairman has given the opposition full opportunity to put forth its point but the opposition members are walking out of the House for political gain and appeasement. He said that this behaviour of the opposition is reprehensible and is an attempt to support those who want to break the country. The opposition is encouraging traitors.
Earlier also, there was a round of allegations and counter-allegations between the ruling party and the opposition on this issue in the House and the Chairman also adjourned the proceedings of the House for some time due to the uproar. As soon as the proceedings started during Zero Hour after the adjournment, the opposition members walked out of the House.
Congress President Mallika Arjun Kharge has termed this report as fake and said that he and his party will not accept this fake report. Kharge said that if they are Muslims then why is the standard different. The opposition said that the suggestions of the opposition members have not been accepted in the report.
Opposition members should not mislead the House - Rijiju
However, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said in the House that all the things are there in this bill. Nothing has been deleted. Rijiju said that opposition members should not mislead the House. The JPC report has been prepared as per the rules. All the allegations made by the opposition are false and baseless. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Rijiju said that the opposition is raising unnecessary issues. Rijiju said that the Ministry to which the Waqf Amendment Bill is linked is the Ministry of Minority Affairs, which is with him.
Kharge said that the JPC report is unconstitutional
Opposition leader Mallikarjun Kharge said that many opposition members have given dissent notes on the Waqf Bill. Removing them from the proceedings is a completely undemocratic process. All the people who have given dissent notes, is not even one of them educated? You should put that dissent note in your report and speak. You are presenting the report by deleting it. Kharge said the opposition does not accept such a fake report. The House will also never accept it.
Kharge addressed the Speaker Jagdeep Dhankhar and said you can also refuse this JPC report. He said governors of many states also do this.
