As many as 30 suspected Maoists have been killed in encounters in Bijapur and Kanker of Chhattisgarh. One jawan was also martyred.
Home Minister Amit Shah has confirmed from his X account that 22 suspected Maoists were killed in an encounter between security forces and Maoists in Bijapur and Kanker of Chhattisgarh.
He wrote, "Today our soldiers have achieved another major success in the direction of Naxal Mukt Bharat Abhiyan. 22 Naxalites were killed in 2 separate operations of our security forces in Bijapur and Kanker of Chhattisgarh."
Shah also wrote that the Modi government is adopting a zero tolerance policy against Naxalites who do not surrender. He has claimed that the country will become Naxal-free before March 31 next year.
Police has said that a District Reserve Guard jawan has also died in this encounter. According to Bastar IG Police Sundarraj P, bodies of 18 Maoists have been recovered so far.
72 Maoists have been killed in Bastar since January. Police has said that the number of Maoists killed may increase further.
Bastar Police has said in a statement that a joint team of security forces had gone to Thana Gangalur area on the border of Bijapur and Dantewada, where an encounter with the Maoists started in the morning.
Police has said in its statement that bodies of two Maoists have also been recovered from the encounter site along with a large amount of weapons and ammunition.
On the other hand, in another incident, two jawans have been seriously injured after being hit by an IED blast in Thulthuli area on the border of Narayanpur-Dantewada.
