Mahila Samridhi Yojana Delhi: On March 8, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Delhi approved the Mahila Samridhi Yojana, which aims to provide financial assistance of Rs 2,500 per month to women from economically disadvantaged families. The government has allocated Rs 5,100 crore for this scheme.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced the formation of a committee, chaired by herself, to oversee the implementation of the Mahila Samridhi Yojana. Senior ministers Ashish Sood, Pravesh Verma, and Kapil Mishra will also be part of this committee. Registration for the scheme will commence soon through an online portal after finalizing the eligibility criteria.
According to the guidelines being developed by the Rekha Gupta government, certain women will be excluded from benefiting from this scheme. Notably, women listed in the Below Poverty Line (BPL) category who have more than three children or whose children are not fully vaccinated will not qualify for assistance.
Key Eligibility Criteria
The woman must possess a BPL card.
The age of the woman should be between 21 and 60 years.
The financial assistance will be directly deposited into the woman’s bank account.
The Chief Minister's Office will oversee the scheme's implementation.
Additionally, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that the Delhi government plans to establish 'One-Stop Centers' in each district to enhance women's safety, providing various forms of assistance, including police support and legal consultation.
This initiative follows the BJP's promise during the recent Delhi Assembly elections to provide Rs 2,500 monthly to women, surpassing the Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) offer of Rs 2,100. The BJP's strategy proved effective, resulting in their victory in 48 out of 70 assembly seats, marking their return to power in Delhi after more than 26 years.
