Great news for YouTube Shorts creators; big change in view counting system

A great update has come for creators uploading videos on YouTube Shorts. Now their videos will get more views than before, as YouTube has announced changes in the view counting system. This new rule will come into effect from March 31, 2025, which will help creators to better understand the performance of their videos and strengthen their strategy.

The new rule will be a big benefit for YouTube shorts creators and their content will become more popular than before.

Explaining this change in detail, YouTube said that now views will be counted on the basis of how many times the shorts video has been played or replayed. As before, it will not be necessary for how many seconds the video has been watched.

With this change, shorts videos will see more views than before. This update will be more flexible like the view counting system of TikTok and Instagram Reels. This will help new and small creators get faster views on their videos.

Will not affect monetization system

YouTube has made it clear that this change will not affect the YouTube Partner Program (YPP) or the monetization system. That is, the rules of earning for creators will remain the same as before.

However, the new metrics will help creators better analyze their video reach and engagement. This will enable them to prepare their content strategy more effectively.

YouTube has also said that creators will get the option to view old views data. They can go to the advanced mode of YouTube Analytics and compare between the new and old view counting system.

Benefit to creators

Small and new creators will be more likely to get more views. Engagement growth will be from users watching shorts videos repeatedly. Creators will be able to make their content more interactive and engaging. Video reach will increase, which will make the content reach more people.
