Chenai Delimitation Meet Begins: What Karnataka Deputy CM DK Shivakumar said?

Chennai is currently witnessing a major political gathering on Saturday as the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), led by Chief Minister MK Stalin, has organised a high-profile meeting to advocate for Fair Delimitation.

The primary objective of the meeting is to deliberate on concerns regarding the 2026 delimitation process, which will redefine parliamentary constituencies based on population figures. This reshaping of electoral boundaries has sparked debate with southern states particularly emphasising the need for an equitable approach.

The event has brought together several key leaders from across India, reinforcing opposition unity on the issue. Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has arrived in Chennai to participate in a meeting convened by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin regarding delimitation.

Shivakumar said that representatives from Telangana, Punjab, and Kerala will attend the meeting. Speaking to reporters, he congratulated MK Stalin, stating, "He has taken the first step. We are proud that he is protecting the federal structure and constitution of this country."

Shivakumar emphasized the importance of collaboration. He said, "Today we will all discuss further progress and work together. Leaders from Telangana, Punjab, and Kerala are here together. We will not let our country and our seats be harmed under any circumstances."

Shivakumar highlighted Karnataka's achievements, asserting, "We are a progressive state. We have done good work in the field of economics and education. We will remain united and save our seats."

In a bold statement, he added, "I welcome the black flags of BJP. Even if they send me to Tihar Jail, I am not afraid."

This meeting marks the first joint committee gathering on delimitation, called by MK Stalin in Chennai on Saturday.

The Chief Ministers of several states governed by the opposition, including Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Odisha, West Bengal, and Punjab, have been invited. However, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has opted not to attend.

Ahead of the meeting, MK Stalin expressed optimism about the initiative, stating, "Today will be etched in history as the day when states that have contributed to our nation’s development came together to safeguard its federal structure by ensuring #FairDelimitation. I warmly welcome all Chief Ministers and political leaders to this meeting, united in our commitment to #FairDelimitation."
