Military regime's air strikes continue in Myanmar even after devastating earthquake

Myanmar's military junta has carried out air strikes on pro-democracy rebel groups even after the devastating earthquake in the country. The United Nations (UN) has called it completely 'unacceptable'.

According to media reports, seven people have died in the junta's attack. Not even three hours had passed since the earthquake that the military junta launched attack.

The junta has carried out this attack in Chaung-U township of Sagaing, the epicenter of the earthquake, and other places. There are reports that the junta has also attacked places near the Myanmar-Thailand border.

The National Unity Government (NUG), which represents the ousted civilian administration, said in a statement that its armed forces would begin a two-week pause in "offensive military operations, except for defensive actions" in areas affected by the earthquake, from Sunday.

At the same time, Myanmar's Military Council has said that the death toll from the earthquake has risen to 1644.

Military leaders have said that the number of injured from the earthquake has also increased to 3408 and 139 people are still missing.

The United Nations said that there is a huge shortage of medical supplies. In such a situation, it is becoming more difficult to deal with this disaster.

Rescue workers are trying to rescue people trapped under the rubble. Myanmar's state media has reported that the Chinese embassy says that 12 of its citizens have been injured due to the earthquake.

The number of dead and injured in Myanmar and Thailand may increase. The 12th body was found on Saturday in a collapsed high rise building in Thailand's capital Bangkok. The death toll in Thailand has risen to 17.
