Andhra Pradesh's new capital Amaravati set to create history, may become world's first 100% renewable energy-powered city

Andhra Pradesh's new capital Amaravati is soon going to make a new identity in the world. Its aim is to become the first city based entirely on renewable energy. This ambitious project is being led by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.

According to officials, the city will require 2,700 MW of electricity to operate smoothly, which will be obtained from green sources like solar energy, wind energy and hydropower.

Located on the banks of Krishna river, this capital will be spread over an area of 217 square kilometers. The Prime Minister is likely to lay its foundation stone soon. Naidu has clarified that "this project will ensure zero dependence on fossil fuels and lead the country towards energy independence."

More than 30% energy to be obtained from renewable esources

According to officials, Amaravati will require a total of 2.7 GW of power by 2050, of which at least 30% of the energy will be obtained from solar and wind sources. This project will be a milestone in India's fight against climate change.

An official associated with the project said, "Amaravati's green initiative will become a source of inspiration for other cities of the world and will make India a leader in the global clean energy movement."

Solar panels will be mandatory in government buildings

So far, solar panels of 415 kW capacity have been installed in 16 Anganwadi centers, 14 e-health centers and 13 government schools. In the future, it will be mandatory for all government and commercial buildings to install solar panels. Also, a district cooling system is being planned which will further enhance energy efficiency.
