Bihar Assembly Elections-2025: BJP, Nitish Kumar, and Chirag: Three Pillars of NDA—Why Are They Assuring Each Other Repeatedly?

Bihar Assembly Elections-2025: Elections are scheduled to be held in Bihar at the end of the year, with preparations are already in full swing. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is assuring the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of his commitment to remain in the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). Both the BJP and Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) leader Chirag Paswan have expressed their intention to contest the assembly elections under Nitish Kumar's leadership.

However, Nitish Kumar has developed a reputation as a turncoat leader, having switched alliances in the past. He has also received overtures from the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), which presents a challenge for the NDA. Despite this, leaders within the NDA are preparing to contest the elections together.Recently, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was seen balancing political equations in the Mithila region of Bihar, promoting development while CM Nitish Kumar reiterated his commitment to the NDA, stating he would never leave again. This assurance is not new; whenever PM Modi visits, Nitish Kumar reiterates his loyalty to the NDA.

The BJP has also said it will contest the Bihar assembly elections under Nitish Kumar's leadership. LJP leader and Union Minister Chirag Paswan has accepted Nitish as their leader in this coalition. The NDA comprises Nitish's Janata Dal (United) [JDU], BJP, Chirag Paswan's LJP, Jitan Ram Manjhi, and Upendra Kushwaha's parties, all of which are preparing to fight the assembly elections together in 2025. The NDA's 'Tridev'—Nitish, Chirag, and the BJP—continue to reassure each other of their unity, raising questions about why such reassurances are necessary.

Nitish Kumar is regarded as a pivotal figure in Bihar's political landscape, having been a prominent leader for the last two decades. His history of changing political parties has led to uncertainty regarding his future alliances. Nitish has previously broken ties with the BJP on two occasions, aligning with the RJD-led grand alliance. The RJD has openly invited him to rejoin, stating that the doors remain open for him. This history contributes to his image as a turncoat leader, necessitating repeated reassurances to the BJP about his commitment.
