Delhi Govt Confirms No Ban on CNG Autorickshaws; What Decision Taken About EV Policy 2.0?


Speculations about the likely ban on CNG autorickshaws in Delhi have been clarified by the Delhi government. which has officially stated that there will be no ban on CNG autos or any other vehicle categories operating in the capital. This announcement comes in response to confusion surrounding the draft of Delhi's new Electric Vehicle (EV) policy.


EV Policy 2.0 Extended for Three Months


During a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, several key decisions were made, including the approval to extend the current EV policy for an additional three months. The government also decided to maintain the existing electricity subsidy in Delhi.


Delhi Transport Minister Pankaj Singh addressed concerns in a press conference on Tuesday. He sai, "The government is not planning to stop any category of vehicle. CNG autorickshaws will continue to run completely. There is no ban." 


He stressed that the revised EV policy would be adjusted to accommodate the needs of the general public.


EV Policy under consideration


The government has indicated that the electric vehicle policy is under thorough consideration, with a final decision expected to be made after evaluating all relevant factors. The current policy will remain in effect for the next three to four months.


In addition, Minister Ashish Sood said that the cabinet has passed a special resolution to continue providing relief to farmers, lawyers, and individuals affected by the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, addressing misinformation regarding the electricity subsidy.
