Strong 6.0 magnitude earhquake jolts Japan's Kyushu Island

Tokyo: After Myanmar, strong earthquake tremors have been felt in Japan as well. According to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), an earthquake of magnitude 6.0 struck the Kyushu region at 7:34 pm Indian time. Its epicenter was located on Kyushu Island, some 283 km south-east of Nagasaki, at a depth of 30 km.

The tremors came days after Japan warned that a powerful earthquake in the Nakai Trough could kill up to 3 lakh people and set off destructive tsunamis in Japan. It also comes soon after two earthquakes of magnitude 7.7 and 7 left a trail of destruction across Myanmar and Thailand.

However, there has been no report of any major damage or casualties so far. The Japan Meteorological Agency has not yet issued any tsunami warning after this earthquake. Significantly, Kyushu is the third largest island in Japan and is known for seismic activity. The local administration has advised residents to remain alert and prepare for possible tremors.
