W Bengal: What Mamata Banerjee Said about Waqf Amendment Act?

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has expressed her views on the Waqf Amendment Act during a recent program, appealing for unity among all communities.

In her address, she reassured minority communities, stating, "We tell the minority people that you have felt sad in your heart about the Waqf property; you should trust that nothing will happen in Bengal that will cause any divide and rule."

Mamata Banerjee emphasized her commitment to protecting the interests of these communities, saying, "Remember that Didi will protect you and your property. Trust us, we are not against you; we are with you."

Mamata further encouraged collective solidarity, urging attendees to spread the message of unity: "You people should give this message that we have to stay together. We were with you before and will be with you in the future too."

The Waqf Amendment Bill was recently passed by both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha. Following its passage, the President approved the bill, which has now become law. The Government of India announced that the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025 came into effect on April 8.
