In the 2025 Canadian general elections, an Indian-origin politician Amarjit Singh Gill from Indore has made headlines by defeating Canada's outgoing Health Minister, Kamal Khera, by a margin of 1,400 votes.
Gill has been elected as the Member of Parliament from the Brampton West constituency in Toronto on the Conservative Party ticket. His victory has sparked excitement among the residents of Indore. They are celebrating at his ancestral home in Vishnupuri. Friends and classmates expressed their joy, saying that this achievement is significant not just for Indore but for the entire nation.
Studied at DAVV and IMS
Originally hailing from Vishnupuri in Indore, Amarjit Singh Gill moved to Canada in 1999. He completed his primary education at Vaishnav School and later attended Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV) and the Institute of Management Studies (IMS). His father served in the Indian Army.
Prof. Deepak Srivastava, Director of IMS, hailed on Gill's leadership abilities. He said that Gill demonstrated exceptional leadership skills during his college years. His election to the Canadian Parliament is a matter of pride for both Indore and DAVV.
