Will you have to pay to use Facebook and Instagram? What is the new policy of Meta?

If you use Facebook and Instagram, this news is very important for you. Until now, these social media platforms have been free to use, but Meta is planning to make these services paid soon. Users who do not want to see ads on Facebook and Instagram will have to pay a subscription fee for this

Meta is preparing to introduce an ad-free subscription model in the UK. This policy will be especially for those users who do not want to see ads in their feed. According to reports, Meta has already launched this service in the European Union (EU) and is now planning to implement it in the UK.

Suit was filed against Meta

This decision of Meta is related to legal matters. The company had agreed to stop showing targeted ads to users living in Britain. The matter had reached the London High Court, where Meta had to take this step to avoid litigation.

Human rights activist Tanya O'Carrell filed a $1.5 trillion (about Rs 12.8 lakh crore) case against Meta in 2022. She alleged that Meta was showing targeted ads using her data without consent. The UK Data Protection Authority also supported Tanya in this case and clarified that they are in support of those users who want to avoid targeted ads online.

Meta launched ad-free membership service in EU

Meta launched its ad-free membership service in the European Union (EU) in 2023. The main reason for bringing this service was to comply with strict rules like General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and Digital Markets Act (DMA).

Subscription fees

Meta reduced its subscription charge by 40% in 2024. The monthly fee in the European Union (EU) is as follows:

On the web: €5.99 (about Rs 554)

On iOS and Android: €7.99 (about Rs 739)

No official announcement

At present, there is no official announcement on Meta's ad-free subscription service in India. But if this policy is successful in the UK, it can be implemented in India soon.
