10 family members of Jaish-e-Mohammed chief Masood Azhar among 14 killed

Extremist organization Jaish-e-Mohammed has said that 10 members of the family of the organization's chief Masood Azhar and four close associates have been killed in India's attack on Pakistan.

A statement was issued by Jaish-e-Mohammed (JEM) on Wednesday in this regard. The statement said that the dead include Masood Azhar's elder sister and brother-in-law, nephew, nephew's wife, niece and five children of the family.

Jaish-e-Mohammed also said that three close aides of Masood Azhar and the mother of one of those aides died in the attack.

According to the statement, Masood Azhar's relatives have died in the attack on Subhan Allah Mosque in Bahawalpur, Pakistan.

In February 2019, Jaish-e-Mohammed carried out a suicide bombing in Jammu and Kashmir, killing 40 soldiers.

A statement attributed to Azhar, who was arrested in India in 1994 and released after the Air India IC 814 hijack, says that those killed in the strike on JeM headquarters -- Jamia Masjid Subhan Allah in Bahawalpur -- included his elder sister, her husband, a nephew and his wife, a niece, and five children from the extended family.

"Ten members of my family were blessed with this happiness together tonight... five are innocent children, my elder sister, her honorable husband. My scholar Fazil bhanje (nephew) and his wife and my beloved scholar Fazilah (bhanji) ... my dear brother Huzaifah and his mother. Two more dear companions," he said, saying that those killed have become the guests of Allah.
