Delhi: Why 34 students of DPS Dwarka were expelled and what demand Atishi made to CM Rekha?

Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly Atishi on Thursday, May 15, wrote a letter to the Chief Minister Rekha Gupta demanding strict action against Delhi Public School (DPS) Dwarka for expelling 34 students in a fee dispute.

Atishi also demanded immediate withdrawal of the expulsion orders and urged that all private schools be directed to stop fee hike for the 2025-26 academic year until their accounts are audited.

In her letter to the CM, Atishi wrote, “On behalf of the students and parents of Delhi, I request you to immediately take the following steps. Take exemplary action against DPS Dwarka and direct immediate withdrawal of the order of expulsion of 34 students. Direct all private schools to stop fee hike in the academic year 2025-26 until all school accounts are audited.”

Meanwhile, parents of 32 students allegedly expelled by Delhi Public School Dwarka over the fee hike dispute have approached the Delhi High Court seeking reinstatement of their children. In their petition, they claimed that the school repeatedly ignored written reminders and complaints to the Directorate of Education (DOE), deliberately avoided debiting cheques deposited for approved fees and refused to accept payments for subsequent months.

The parents allege that the school arbitrarily and forcefully removed 32 minor students from its rolls without any prior notice or reasonable justification, which is in violation of both the court order and the basic principles of natural justice. The parents alleged that the children were ill-treated, threatened by the bouncers and kept in the bus for two hours before being dropped home.
