Most of the codes will be generated by AI by 2026 end, says Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Should coders panic?

If you are a software developer or coder, this news is very important for you. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg recently made a big statement in a podcast interview. He said that in the next 12 to 18 months, i.e. by end of 2026, most of the code associated with Meta's Llama project will be generated through Artificial Intelligence (AI). According to Zuckerberg, 'AI is already performing like an above-average programmer and is now capable of writing large parts of the code on its own.'

Currently, AI is being used to generate code, and this trend is expected to grow significantly. AI code generation tools use machine learning to create code based on user prompts, often automating tasks and improving developer productivity. Some major tech companies, like Google and Meta, are already incorporating AI into their software development processes, with AI generating a substantial portion of their code.

Functioning of Meta will be totally changed

Zuckerberg also claimed that in the future AI will not only do the coding, but will also be able to run tests on its own and identify and fix bugs. This change can completely change the functioning of Meta, which makes it clear how serious the company is about AI technology.

Tools are being made for company's internal use

Meta is currently developing several AI coding agents within itself. Zuckerberg said that these tools are being made for the company's internal use, not for sale in the market. In particular, a coding agent and an AI research agent are being developed to advance Llama research, which will be fully integrated into the company's toolchain.

Almost all the code will be written by AI by year end

Opinions of other tech giants have also come to the fore regarding the coding role of AI. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei believes that by the end of 2025 almost all the code will be written by AI. At the same time, Google CEO Sundar Pichai said that 25% of his code is being written by AI and according to OpenAI's Sam Altman, this figure has reached 50% in some companies.

Should coders panic?

However, Zuckerberg also said that AI is not fully ready yet. Earlier he had talked about 2025, but now he has extended it to 2026. He believes that technology is progressing rapidly but it will still take time. “Not every prediction made about AI comes true immediately,” he added.
