The National Commission for Women (NCW) has reacted to the trolling of Himanshi Narwal, wife of Lieutenant Vinay Narwal, who was killed in the Pahalgam attack, over a statement.
The NCW has said that it is not right to troll a woman on the basis of her ideological expression or personal life.
Himanshi Narwal had appealed to people not to target Muslims and Kashmiris after the Pahalgam attack in South Kashmir.
After this, trolling of Himanshi Narwal started. The National Commission for Women has objected to her trolling.
NCW wrote on Twitter, "After the death of Lieutenant Vinay Narwal ji, the manner in which his wife Ms. Himanshi Narwal ji is being targeted on social media in relation to one of her statements is extremely condemnable and unfortunate."
NCW has said that any kind of agreement or disagreement should be expressed with decency and constitutional limits.
Himanshi also received support from Owaisi
Himanshi also received support from All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi. The Hyderabad MP asked the government to "remember her words" amid reports of Kashmiris being targeted in some states.
"They (terrorists) devastated our daughter's (Himanshi) life, and yet, even in her grief, she expressed that she does not wish for this tragedy to create hatred towards Muslims or Kashmiris in our country. I hope the government remembers her words. The ones spreading hate are the very people who bring satisfaction to the terrorists," Owaisi said.
Strong reaction from social media users
Himanshi Narwal, the wife of Indian Navy Lieutenant Vinay Narwal, who was among the 26 killed in the Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir on April 22, recently made an appeal for peace. However, it triggered a strong reaction from social media users.
“I just want the entire nation to pray for him, that wherever he is, he remains healthy and happy…We don’t want people going against Muslims or Kashmiris. We want peace and only peace. Of course, we want justice,” Narwal had said earlier.
The camp where Himanshi made this appeal was being organised by the National Integrated Forum of Artists and Activists on 1 May, which also happened to be Vinay Narwal's birthday.
However, following her statement, the slain Navy officer's wife reportedly trolled on social media platforms.
One user on X posted, that "she will take her in-laws properties" and "leave them destitute".
Some people also expressed surprise on social media that a wife whose husband was brutally killed by terrorists, is still seeking peace.
Her marriage and honeymoon destination also came under scrutiny. Some social media users claimed that the trip was “her idea”. The couple had married on April 16 before heading to Kashmir for their honeymoon. According to reports, they had settled on Pahalgam as the visa for Switzerland was taking too long.
According to reports, Himanshi is a PhD scholar from Gurugram. A social media user said her “JNU roots” made it evident that her comments were not about peace but rather an “agenda to absolve terrorists and cheer Pakistan”.
