Microsoft, one of the big companies in the technology sector, has now made a big announcement. It is being told that in the coming time, 6,000 employees of the company may lose their jobs. This means that the company can lay off about 3 percent of the total staff.
This layoff will include the employees at all levels and it can have a big impact on the company. Earlier, Microsoft had laid off 10,000 employees in the year 2023, the biggest layoff. After this it is the second biggest layoff by the company.
Employees who are part of the company’s largest job cuts since 2023 have spoken out about their journey on various social media platforms.

The staff affected by this layoff are also being given 2 options by the company. The first option is that the employees will be given 60 days salary after their service ends. Along with this, the staff who suffer its impact will also be eligible for awards and bonuses.
In a statement, a Microsoft spokesperson has given an interview to the media that for the success of the company in the dynamic market, we will continue to make the necessary organizational changes.
Also, the staff being fired on performance basis will either be given some time limit for improvement or they can also opt for Global Voluntary Separation Agreement with 16 weeks of severance pay.
Heavy investments in AI
Last year i.e. till June 2024, the total number of employees in Microsoft was 2lakh 28 thousand. Three percent of its global staff is being laid off by the company. Giving information about this decision, the company has said that cost control and heavy investments made in artificial intelligence could be the reasons behind firing of staff.
