During the meeting of the Congress Working Committee in Delhi, differences within the party once again came to the fored. This time the issue was Operation Sindoor, on which the statement of Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has started a new debate.
Tharoor praised the action of the central government, over which the senior leaders of the party expressed displeasure. Congress clearly said that this is not the time to give personal opinion, but to keep the united opinion of the party. It was also alleged in the meeting that the government is trying to take political advantage of this military operation.
Concerns also came up in the Congress meeting that some leaders of the party are speaking in different tones, which can affect the public image. Party leaders said Tharoor's praise was crossing the Laxman Rekha. The party said that Operation Sindoor is a symbol of the bravery of our soldiers and no party can claim its credit. It was also decided that in future, statements on such matters should be made very thoughtfully.
Country's joint fight against terrorism: Tharoor
On May 8, Shashi Tharoor had praised the Centre's press briefing on Operation Sindoor. He said that this was a message to Pakistan and the international community that India is united against terrorism. Tharoor had clarified that this is not a religious war, but the country's joint fight against terrorism. He also added that India does not want war, but is ready to take action if forced.
Tharoor shouldn't make statements deviating from the party line
It was emphasized in the meeting that a senior leader like Tharoor should not make statements deviating from the party line. Congress also accused the government of presenting the Army's operation as its achievement, which is absolutely wrong. The party also reiterated that Operation Sindoor is the result of the army's bravery, not the strategy of any political party.
