Will Indian astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla get desi food in space, what is ISRO's plan?


India has been working on its ambitious Gaganyaan mission for the last several years. India planned to launch the Gaganyaan mission in 2024, but due to some reasons, this deadline has been extended to 2026.


Astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla is about to start his space journey. Shubhanshu will start his journey to the International Space Station (ISS) through Axiom Mission 4, which will be launched later this month.


He will get to taste different types of rice, moong dal halwa and mango juice in the space station. Shukla will spend 14 days on the International Space Station (ISS). He will also have the option to choose from various international dishes approved by NASA for the mission.


ISRO scientists have developed dishes


Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) scientists have developed dishes including rice dishes, moong dal halwa and mango juice for astronauts during the space mission. ISRO Human Space Flight Center Director D.K. Singh said, "Shukla ji will get 'ghar ka khana' and he will also have the option to choose from international dishes approved by NASA. "


He said that ISRO and DRDO have developed food for the astronauts of Gaganyaan mission and these are being made available to Shukla with the approval of NASA. Axiom Space shared a video of the crew members of Axiom Mission 4 last month, in which they were seen tasting various food options available for ISS.


Axiom Mission 4 will be launched on May 29


The mission will include astronaut Peggy Whitson as commander, mission pilot Shukla and Polish astronaut Sawoz Uznanski-Wisniewski and Hungarian astronaut Tibor Kapu as mission specialists. Axiom Space has announced that Axiom Mission 4 will be launched from NASA's Kennedy Space Center on May 29 at 10:33 pm Indian time.


Axiom Mission 4 is considered an important mission for India. India has been working on its ambitious Gaganyaan mission for many years. India had planned to launch the Gaganyaan mission in 2024 but due to some reasons, the deadline was later extended to 2026.
