Bhopal: King Cobra Dies in Van Vihar


The director of Van Vihar National Park said that on Wednesday morning, June 18, when the CCTV camera did not show any movement in King Cobra Nagarjuna, aged about 5 years, he was examined. He was found dead in the examination. The post-mortem of the dead King Cobra snake will be done by a team of veterinarians. The cause of death will be clear after receiving the post-mortem report.

The veterinarian of Van Vihar was in constant touch with the veterinary officer of Pilikula Biological Park Mangalore Karnataka regarding the activity of the King Cobra. Till yesterday evening, the activity of Nagarjuna King Cobra was found to be normal according to the veterinarian of the Biological Park.

It is noteworthy that under the wildlife exchange scheme, 2 male king cobras - Nagashayna aged 8 years and Nagarjuna aged 5 years - were brought from Pilikula Biological Park Mangalore, Karnataka to Van Vihar National Park, Bhopal on 6 April 2025. After bringing them from the Biological Park, they were being monitored continuously for 24 hours in Van Vihar.
