Bihar Assembly Election-2025: Rashtriya Janata Dal has once again elected Lalu Prasad Yadav as the national president of the party.
Lalu Prasad Yadav has been elected unopposed for the thirteenth time as the national president. With the announcement of Lalu Prasad Yadav's name, a debate started in politics on why Lalu did not hand over the command of the party's national president to Tejashwi Yadav. Was there any compulsion behind this or is it a special strategy of the party.
Why the questions are being raised
Rashtriya Janata Dal was founded in 1997. Since then, Lalu Prasad Yadav has been working as its national president. Now Lalu's second generation is also a part of the party and many members of the family are working on different constitutional and political posts under the banner of this party.
Lalu Prasad Yadav's son Tejashwi Yadav is the Leader of Opposition in Bihar. Elder son Tej Pratap is an MLA. Lalu's wife Rabri Devi has been the Chief Minister of the state and is currently in the Legislative Council. His daughter Misa Bharti is an MP from RJD. In such a situation, the question is that if Lalu Prasad Yadav can project his son Tejashwi as the CM face, then why not the national president of the party.
What is the party's strategy?
Despite all the health problems, Lalu Prasad Yadav becoming the national president of RJD again can be seen as both the party's need and strategy. If political pundits are to be believed, no other leader has the kind of hold and popularity in Bihar as Lalu Prasad Yadav.
Ever since Lalu Prasad Yadav entered Bihar politics, it has been essential to maintain the way he has managed the M (Muslim) and Y (Yadav) factors in Bihar. In this context, with assembly elections approaching in Bihar at the end of the year, the core support base of the party can only be effectively managed under the leadership of Lalu Prasad Yadav.
The party is hesitant to trust any kind of experimentation just ahead of the Bihar Assembly Elections-2025. Additionally, the results of the assembly elections will play a crucial role in strengthening the party's position within the grand alliance. This is why Lalu Prasad Yadav has once again chosen to retain his name as the national president of the party.
What is the compulsion?
Lalu Prasad Yadav is currently unable to hand over the reins of the party to Tejashwi Yadav. Many reasons are being given for this. If we look at the recent developments in the Lalu family, the family feud has come out in the open. Recently, Lalu expelled his elder son Tej Pratap from the party for six years.
Sources say that due to Misa Bharti's political ambitions, there were many fights between her and Rabri Devi. Apart from this, there are also reports from inside that one faction of the party leaders is with Tejashwi and the other faction is the one that does not like Tejashwi. It is supporting Misa Bharti and Tej Pratap.
Due to all such developments, Lalu Prasad Yadav fears rebellion in the family. He suspects that the family may disintegrate and in such a situation, both his dominance and hold on the party will weaken.
