Bengaluru: 11 die in stampede during celebration of RCB's victory, how the accident happened; PM Modi expresses grief


At least 11 people have died and 33 others have been injured in a stampede outside Bengaluru's Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah gave this information to the media in a press conference. The CM has announced a magistrate inquiry into the matter.

More than one lakh fans had gathered outside the stadium to celebrate the victory of Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Youngsters, women, men and even the elderly were standing on the roadside to welcome the RCB team and celebrate the victory of the IPL trophy after 18 years.

A senior police officer said, "A stampede broke out at the gate of the Chinnaswamy Stadium. When this accident happened, the gate of the stadium was not open and a large number of people were trying to break a small gate by pushing it, when the stampede broke out." 

Another police officer, on the condition of anonymity, said, "Around one lakh people were expected to come but the number reached around two lakh. A lot of people had gathered around the stadium as well."

PM condoles loss of lives

Prime Minister, Narendra Modi has condoled the loss of lives in the tragic mishap that occurred in Bengaluru. Expressing grief over the incident, the PM Modi extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.

In a post on X, PMO India said; "The mishap in Bengaluru is absolutely heartrending. In this tragic hour, my thoughts are with all those who have lost their loved ones. I pray that those who are injured have a speedy recovery: PM @narendramodi"
