At least ten workers were killed and several others injured in a massive explosion at a chemical factory in Telangana's Sangareddy district on Monday. According to information, a fire broke out after a reactor explosion at the Sigachi Chemical Industry in Paschimlaram.
The explosion sent workers flying 100 metres away, trapping many workers in nearby tents and causing the fire to rage. Firefighters are carrying out rescue operations at the spot.
Panic spread in surrounding area
The explosion caused a massive fire, engulfing parts of the establishment and spreading panic in the surrounding area. Several fire engines were rushed to the spot and firefighting efforts continued actively to control the fire. The condition of several injured workers is critical. Officials are continuing rescue and relief operations.
According to eyewitnesses, the explosion was so strong that many workers were thrown into the air and fell several metres away.
Employees of the nearby companies also fled
The explosion caused a complete collapse of a unit of the factory, and the fire spread to the nearby buildings. At that time many workers were working near the reactor. Most of the workers in the factory were migrant workers, who had come from Odisha, Uttar Pradesh and other states. After the accident, there was a stir in the entire area and the employees of the nearby companies also fled from the premises.
Atmosphere of chaos after the accident
The people present around the factory gave information about the incident and said that since it was morning time, many workers had reached the factory to work. The administration evacuated the entire area around the accident. The fire has been controlled, but the rescue operation is still going on. A pile of debris has accumulated at the place of the explosion.
