A single tree can produce thousands of new plants from its seeds. A notable example is the 150-year-old banyan tree planted on the campus of the forest school in Kalapatha in Betul, Madhya Pradesh.
The Forest Training School in Betul is located in Kalapatha, Betul, Madhya Pradesh, and is also known as the Forest School Betul. It is run by the MP Forest Department. The Forest Training School in Kalapatha, Betul, is a training facility for forest personnel.
Over 12,000 saplings have been grown and planted from its seeds
There is a banyan tree adjacent to the campus of the forest department nursery in Kalapatha. The trunk of this tree is 15 feet thick, and its branches spread 4 to 4.5 feet wide. The nursery in-charge, Suresh Chowkikar, said that this banyan tree is remarkable as its seeds germinate quickly. Thus, more than 12,000 saplings have been grown and planted from its seeds over the past eight years.
Seeds are germinated by keeping them in a mist chamber
In the greenhouse, these banyan seeds are germinated by keeping them in a mist chamber. Suresh Chowkikar said that for germination of banyan seeds, a temperature of 40 degrees is required i.e. a temperature higher than the normal temperature is needed. Similarly, humidity should also be 90. Both humidity and temperature are high in the mist chamber. This helps in successful germination.
