Foreign Minister S Jaishankar has reacted to RSS General Secretary Dattatreya Hosabale's statement on the words 'socialist' and 'secular' in the preamble of the Constitution.
When S Jaishankar was questioned on Dattatreya Hosabale's statement during a press conference, he said, "I am a minister of the government, so it is not appropriate for me to comment on such a subject."
Dattatreya Hosabale had said on Thursday that the words 'socialist' and 'secular' were included in the preamble of the Constitution during the Emergency.
Hosabale has called for a review of the inclusion of the terms 'socialist' and 'secular' in the Preamble of the Constitution, while hitting out at the Congress for imposing the Emergency five decades ago.
Addressing an event to mark 50 years of Emergency on Thursday, Hosabale demanded that those responsible for imposing the Emergency apologise to the country. Without naming the Congress directly, he said, "Those who did this are moving around with the Constitution in their hands. They have not apologised to the country for that. They must apologise. If your ancestors did it, apologise on their behalf.” He was addressing a gathering at the Dr Ambedkar International Centre.
Dattatreya Hosabale said, "These two words were not there in the preamble of the constitution made by Baba Saheb. These words were added during the emergency when fundamental rights were suspended, Parliament was not working, judiciary was paralyzed."
Anti-constitutional thinking of the BJP-RSS exposed: Gehlot
Former Chief Minister of Rajasthan and senior Congress leader Ashok Gehlot has said that the anti-constitutional thinking of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), which has been pretending to be the protector of the Constitution for the last two days, is exposed by Dattatreya Hosabale's statement on changing the Preamble of the Constitution.
Gehlot said this in his statement here on Friday. He said that the objective of the BJP-RSS has always been to change the Constitution. Now these people are giving such statements considering themselves above the Supreme Court which has the power of judicial review. He said that the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, is raising the slogan of Save the Constitution because the BJP and RSS want to change the Constitution.
