Kolkata: A twist has come to the fore in the Instagram influencer Sharmistha Panoli case. Kolkata Police have registered an FIR against Wajahat Khan, who filed a complaint against Sharmistha. He is accused of trying to spread hatred and hurt religious sentiments by using objectionable language on social media.
Kolkata Police have registered a case under sections 196(1)(a), 299, 352 and 353(1)(c) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Information about Wajahat's disappearance had come to light even before Sharmistha's arrest. After the influencer's arrest, Wajahat Khan was accused of insulting Hindu deities.
An FIR has been registered against Wajahat at Golf Green police station in Kolkata. A local person has lodged a written complaint against him.

Apart from this, Assam Police has also registered an FIR against him. Assam Police also sent a team to Kolkata for his arrest. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma himself gave this information by posting on X.
Sarma told on X that a case has been registered by Assam Police in connection with the unacceptable comments made by a person against Goddess Kamakhya and we will seek cooperation from the West Bengal government in bringing that person to Assam to face the law.
Wajhat is the co-founder of Kolkata-based Rashidi Foundation
Wajhat Khan is the co-founder of Kolkata-based 'Rashidi Foundation'. Wajahat had lodged a complaint with the Kolkata Police against Sharmistha Panoli. On the basis of his complaint, Kolkata Police arrested Sharmistha from Gurugram. Wajahat celebrated this on social media. However, his past history revealed that in many of his posts, he had written objectionable things about Hinduism, Lord Krishna, religious places like Kamakhya Devi Temple and Hindu festivals. After this, Assam Police has registered an FIR against him.
What Wajahat Khan's father said?
Wajahat Khan's father Saadat Khan has reacted to the FIR against him. He said, 'My son is innocent and has always had a secular mindset. He can never insult Hinduism.' He alleged that his son was receiving threats ever since Sharmistha Panoli's arrest.
