Elon Musk's Tesla has launched Model Y on Tuesday, giving strong competition to the electric vehicle market in India. With strong range, safety features and level-2 ADAS technology, this electric SUV is attracting customers.
Tesla opened its first showroom in Mumbai. Tesla's Southeast Director Isabel Fan announced that the company will soon open a showroom in the capital Delhi as well.
Musk's Tesla has been struggling with declining sales for some time. Musk has been criticizing India for high tariffs.
In such a situation, Tesla's entry into the Indian car market is being watched with interest in the automobile sector around the world.
Charging and range of Tesla Model Y
The company claims that this car can run up to 622 km on a single full charge, which makes it the most powerful option in the segment.
Customers can book the car through Tesla's official website, which is likely to be delivered between the third quarter of this financial year (October to December).
Musk was planning to bring Tesla to India for a long time. He also planned to open a Tesla factory in India.
Car is priced at Rs 60 lakh
Tesla's Model Y rear-wheel drive has been priced at around Rs 60 lakh, while the Model Y long-range rear-wheel drive is priced at Rs 68 lakh.
The company's "full self-driving" feature will be available for an additional Rs 6 lakh, with future updates promised that will enable the vehicle to drive with minimal human intervention.
Why price is so high?
The price of the model which is around 60 lakh rupees in India is 44,990 dollars i.e. around 39 lakh rupees in the US, 36,700 dollars i.e. 32 lakh rupees in China and 45,970 dollars i.e. around 39 lakh 50 thousand rupees in Germany.
The reason for high price is that the cars that Tesla will bring to the customers in India will have a tariff of almost 100 percent. That is why the price of Tesla's cars sold in India is so high. Due to this high tax, Tesla had to keep the prices of its vehicles so high in India.
