Gujarat: Bridge built on Mahisagar river collapses, six die, three rescued

 



The Gambhira bridge built on the Mahisagar river in Anand district of Gujarat collapsed on Wednesday. This bridge connects Central Gujarat to Saurashtra and was located on the route connecting Vadodara to Anand.

4 vehicles including two trucks and a Bolero passing through the bridge fell into the river. As soon as the information about the incident was received, the local administration started relief and rescue operations. 

Six people died in this accident, 3 people were rescued by the local people. Three fire brigade teams have been sent to the accident site.

8 injured

8 people have been injured in this accident. 6 people have been shifted to Padra Hospital and 2 to Sayaji Hospital in Vadodara. As soon as the information of this incident was received, a crowd of people gathered.

The collapse of the bridge will have a major impact on the tourism and transport system of South Gujarat. This bridge used to connect Bharuch, Surat, Navsari, Tapi and Valsad to Saurashtra.

Now after the bridge collapse, people of South Gujarat will take more time to reach Saurashtra and they will have to travel a longer distance.

In the pictures received from the spot, a truck is seen stuck on the broken railing of the bridge, while some other vehicles can be seen fallen into the river.

In the video footage available there, health workers are seen removing the victims from the river and taking them to ambulances. The presence of police force has also been seen on the bridge. Investigation has been started at the administrative level.

Locals blame administration

Local people allege that the administration is completely responsible for this accident.

They expressed their anger against the administration. People said that the administration has been informed several times to repair this 45-year-old bridge. This accident happened today due to no action taken by the administration.
