Movie: Sarzameen

Director: Kayoze Irani

Cast: Prithviraj Sukumaran, Ibrahim Ali Khan & Kajol

Run time: 02 hours 17 mins

Platform: Disney Plus Hotstar

Ratings: 4 stars

The story of the film Sarzameen is an emotional thriller that touches upon deep emotions like family, patriotism, and trust. Vijay Menon (Prithviraj Sukumaran) is a dedicated officer in the Indian Army who considers the nation his topmost priority. However, his relationship with his son, Harman, has always been strained—a son who is not like other children, who stammers and lacks physical strength. Vijay distances himself from him, while his wife, Mehr (Kajol), showers Harman with unconditional love.

Harman is kidnapped by terrorists

The story takes a dramatic turn when Harman (Ronak Parihar) is kidnapped by terrorists. In exchange, they demand the release of one of their own, but Vijay chooses the country over his son and sacrifices him. He believes Harman is no longer alive. However, eight years later, Harman (now played by Ibrahim Ali Khan) suddenly returns, reopening a complex and emotionally charged chapter in the father-son relationship. Vijay begins to suspect that his son may have become a terrorist agent working against the country.

Kayoze Irani is the son of Boman Irani, who has appeared as an actor in a few films and, before Sarzameen, had directed a segment in the Netflix anthology Ajeeb Daastaans. As a full-fledged director this time, his work appears impressive. The film is technically sound, and whatever flaws it has are not major.

Kajol delivers an excellent performance

Kajol has delivered an excellent performance in the film, while Prithviraj Sukumaran also appears strong and commanding. Additionally, Ibrahim Ali Khan shows notable improvement compared to his previous film. Apart from these three, the supporting cast — including Boman Irani, Jitendra Joshi, KC Shankar, Anurag Arora, and Ronak Parihar — have also done a commendable job.

The writing, dialogues, and editing are the soul of this film. The way music has been used is also commendable. We give this film four stars. It's definitely a film you can enjoy with your family.
