Who will be new BJP state chief? These names are in the race
UP BJP is going to get its new state president soon. The state unit has sent a list of six leaders to the national leadership for this. It is being speculated that among them two are Brahmins, two are from backward and two are from Dalit class. The name of the new president can be announced within two weeks.
Media reports claim that these names include former Deputy CM Dinesh Sharma and former MP from Basti Harish Dwivedi (both Brahmins), current minister Dharampal Singh and Union Minister of State BL Verma (both OBC) and former Union Minister Ramshankar Katheria and current MLC Vidyasagar Sonkar (both Dalit).
BJP has selected the state president in more than 25 out of 37 organizational units. The party is also considering the name of its new national president. At present, the reins of UP BJP are in the hands of Jat leader Bhupendra Singh Chaudhary from western Uttar Pradesh.
Dinesh Sharma is known for his clean image
Known for his clean image and educational background, Dinesh Sharma has the trust of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and the party leadership. Harish Dwivedi is also a Brahmin and has experience in parliamentary work. He has also been an MP from Basti and a national secretary in the party.
Dharampal Singh and BL Verma both belong to Lodha caste
Dharampal Singh and BL Verma both belong to the influential Lodha caste. Dharampal Singh has long experience in legislative work and ministerial posts. BL Verma is currently a Union Minister of State, and is considered a disciplined and simple-living organizer. BL Verma also has strong ties with the Sangh. He has full support in the organization.
Katheria is known for his aggressive attitude
Former head of the National Scheduled Caste Commission, Ramshankar Katheria, is known for his aggressive attitude regarding Hindutva and Dalit rights. MLC Sonkar is considered a simple but dedicated party worker, who has influence in eastern UP.
