Bihar assembly election-2025: Bihar SIR: ECI to release draft voter list on Aug 1; what to do if your name is not there; what will be the role of Supreme Court
Bihar SIR: Bihar assembly election-2025 are going to be held in the next few months. Earlier, the Election Commission of India conducted a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) campaign of Bihar voter list. The initial phase of Special Intensive Revision has been completed. Now the draft voter list of Bihar will be released on August 1.
Chief Election Commissioner of India Gyanesh Kumar said that the draft voter list of Bihar will be published on Friday i.e. 1 August 2025. It can also be checked by visiting the official website of the Election Commission.
Claims and objections can be submitted upto September 1
All the 38 District Election Officers (DEOs) of the state will also give its physical and digital copies to all the recognized political parties in all the 38 districts of Bihar. He said that the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Bihar and 243 Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) will invite any voter of that assembly constituency or any recognized political party of Bihar to submit claims and objections from August 1 to September 1, 2025 for adding the name of any left out eligible voter, deleting the name of any ineligible voter or correcting any entry in the draft voter list.
What will be the role of Supreme Court?
At the same time, the Supreme Court had made an important comment on Tuesday regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in Bihar. On the apprehension of 65 lakh voters being excluded from the voter list being prepared by the Election Commission, the court had said that if any situation of 'mass exclusion' arises, the Supreme Court will intervene.
What to do if your name is not in the voter list?
After SIR in Bihar, the Election Commission will upload the new voter list on the official website https://www.eci.gov.in/. To check your name in the voter list, you can download the voter list of your constituency by visiting the official website of the Election Commission.
After this, you can search for your name in it. If your name is mentioned in the voter list, then you will be considered a voter. If your name is not found in the voter list, then you will have the opportunity to register an objection. After the objections, the commission will re-issue a new voter list with corrections.
