Traditional farming has now become a thing of the past. Now is the era of advanced farming with modern methods. How to move ahead through advanced farming, ask this success mantra from farmer Sharad Nagare.
Sharad Nagare of Jhamta village of Bichhua block of Chhindwara district in MP used to do traditional farming earlier. He was struggling to earn a livelihood with limited resources and low income. But today the same Sharad has not only become a millionaire with the help of modern agricultural techniques, but has also become an inspiration for the farmers of his village. By achieving success with his determination and modern thinking, he has become a 'farming icon' of his area.
Sharad Nagare used to do farming in very old ways in the beginning. He always stayed away from plows, harvesters, tractors, modern machinery and latest technologies. Due to this he used to earn very modest income. His situation started changing with the guidance of the Horticulture Department. The department told him the benefits of cultivating horticultural crops like tomato, brinjal, garlic, cucumber and gourd and also gave him practical training in modern agricultural techniques.
Sharad started cultivating horticultural crops
Following the technical advice, Sharad started cultivating horticultural crops on his 4 hectare field. He initially faced difficulties in adopting new techniques, but he did not give up. He started using new irrigation techniques, improved seeds, fertilizers and mulching methods. The Horticulture Department also gave him a grant of Rs 16,000 for mulching facilities. His hard work paid off.
Tomato, brinjal and other horticultural crops started yielding well and his fresh products started getting good prices in the market. This started improving his financial condition. Sharad Nagare's annual income from farming increased to Rs 15 lakh. With this income, he not only fulfilled his needs, but also arranged for higher education of his children, built a concrete house and purchased modern agricultural equipment.
Now Sharad Nagare is known as a respected person in his village. Inspired by him, other farmers of the village have also started adopting modern farming. By adopting modern farming, the standard of living of other farmers of the village is also improving rapidly.
