Ministry of External Affairs reacts on relations with America, Russia and Iran; what it said about tariff imposed by Trump?
The Indian Ministry of External Affairs clarified its position on issues related to America, Russia and Iran, including tariffs imposed by Donald Trump, in its weekly press briefing on Friday.
MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that the Indian government stands by the statement it has already issued regarding the tariff imposed by America.
He said, "As far as the White House statement is concerned, they can comment better on it."
Regarding India-US relations, he said, "India and America have a comprehensive strategic partnership based on shared interests, democratic values and strong people-to-people ties. It has faced many changes and challenges over time."
Jaiswal said that both countries are working on a solid agenda to which they are committed. "We are confident that our relations with America will continue to grow."
On India-US defence partnership, he said, "India and US defence and security partnership is very strong and it has become stronger over the years."
On the question of US sanctions due to trade with Iran, Randhir Jaiswal said, "We have taken note of these sanctions and are considering it."
When asked if India has stopped buying oil from Russia, he said, "You are aware of our overall approach to energy needs. We take decisions based on market availability and global conditions. At the moment, I am not aware of this."
Trump delays implementation of tariff
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump has once again extended the date of implementation of reciprocal tariffs imposed on all countries of the world. Earlier this tariff was to come into effect from 1st August. Now its date has been extended by a week to 7th August.
This means that the tariff imposed on India will also not be applicable from today. This will give India more time so that it can formulate its strategy against the US tariff. During this time India will also have a chance to get its terms accepted regarding the ongoing trade agreement with the US.
