The Uttar Pradesh government is going to make important changes in its Electric Vehicle (EV) policy. Under the new policy, now subsidy will be given only on EVs manufactured in the state. This proposal has been sent to the government and the final decision will be taken soon.

It is expected that this rule will come into effect from October 14, 2025, when the EV policy implemented in 2022 will complete three years. This move will not only promote electric vehicle manufacturing units in the state but will also give impetus to employment and economic development.

Year 2022 policy led to tremendous increase in the sale of EVs

UP's EV policy implemented in the year 2022 led to a tremendous increase in the sale of electric vehicles. Under this, provision of subsidy was made on two-wheelers, four-wheelers, e-buses and e-goods carriers. So far, subsidies of about Rs 60 crore have been given to 17,665 vehicle owners. Only Rs 40 crore has been distributed from April 2024 till now.

Apart from this, the government had waived off 100% tax and registration fee on EV purchases. Consumers who had paid this fee were also later refunded.

How much subsidy is available?

Two wheeler EV: Rs 5,000 per vehicle

Four wheeler EV: Rs 1,00,000 per vehicle

E-bus: Rs 20,00,000 per bus

E-goods carrier: Rs 1,00,000 per vehicle

At present, about 38,285 applications are pending. According to the Transport Department, efforts are being made to settle them soon by activating the Regional Transport Offices (RTOs).

Big companies will set up manufacturing units in UP

According to Transport Commissioner BN Singh, "By giving subsidy on electric vehicles manufactured in UP, big companies will set up manufacturing units here. This will create new employment opportunities and strengthen the state's economy."
